Thoughts!

I've loved music for as long as I can remember. It's been a part of my life since birth. My mom would play classical in my crib and my brother was always a metalhead. I wear my headphones as often as I possibly can. For me, music is the ultimate form of expression and one of the best ways to bond with others.

When I was very young I would listen to whatever the adults played. I grew up in bars (mom has been a server nearly my whole life), so I'd hear a lot of country, alt-rock, post-grunge, etc. My brother would play stuff like A7X and BFMV, and I think his interest in heavier stuff really rubbed off on me. I went from willingly listening to Justin Bieber to regarding the members of Slipknot as my heroes.

After my brother had been removed from the picture, I started exploring music on Youtube & Soundcloud, quickly falling in love with Nightcore. I would come home from middle school and immediately open YT on the computer and just listen for hours. Anyone who remembers the nightcore mix of Angel With a Shotgun is based in my book.

The start of high school was rough as shit, and I started listening to metal again to reflect how insanely angry I felt. During the occasional phone calls, my brother would recommend bands like Wage War and I See Stars and I'd tell him to check out stuff like Jinjer, Thy Art is Murder, Knocked Loose, the like. It was one of the only ways we could connect, other than talking about vidya or how we couldn't wait 'til he was home.

I've tapped into a lot of other stuff over the years. I remember those classic "Epic Dubstep Mix 2016" vids on YT. I became obsessed with kawaii future bass one year, loved Snail's House a lot. There were a few months of 2020 where I would literally only listen to synthwave. Around 2022 is when I found "post-soviet"/post-punk and declared Ploho the Band of All Time.

Lately, I've been flipping between bass house, doom metal, and whatever's in my variety playlists. I always like finding something new, but I still do tend to get hung up on certain artists or styles of music. For the most part, though, my taste is ever-changing and I like it that way.

more to come... hopefully.
A collection of my favourite releases. Alphabetical order, except for Wardialler because it's the GOAT. Click on the album to listen on Youtube.

We Believe - Ministry Well I can visualize
The look in your eyes
The horror
As the plane goes down
And the sirens sound
We can't believe
We can't believe
In the east where the bear is dancing
In the west where the eagle flies
In the middle we stand our ground
The forces pull us down, down, down
Tensions on both sides
We're paralyzed and victimized
We're terrified and petrified
Demoralized and mortified
Of genocide and suicide
And patricide and cyanide
We're pacified by every side
Force-fed pride and then we die for them
We die for them

Welcome to the Family - Avenged Sevenfold Hey! (hey, kid)
I have to question
What's with the violent aggression?
Details blurry, lost him too early
Welcome to the family
Hey!
Why won't you listen?
Can't help the people you're missing
It's been done, a casualty rerun
Welcome to the family

Brother - SAUL Clock is staring
With no sympathy at all
I tremble and I fall
We need answers now!
Didn’t make the sunrise
Now only pain
I’m sorry brother
I walked away

Are you still listening?
Oh, tell me brother
Are you still proud of me?
You said you’d never leave
Are you still listening?
Oh, tell me brother
Are you still proud of me?
After everything that I’ve done?
